Mangaluru:Nov- Traders & Exporters Consortium of Pepper Growers’ Organisation requesting Commerce Minister to Regulate & Restrict Import Black Pepper into India and stopping the Malpractices of Re Exports from different origin.
Addressing the Press conference Konkodi Padmanab Convener of Consortium of Pepper Growers’ Organisation said that we would like to bring kind attention some of the challenges faced by the black pepper growers of South India.Pepper is extensively grown in Karnataka,Kerala, and Tamilnadu. Peper is predominantly grown by Marginal & smalla growers whom constitute 98% of growing community. the India Production is around 65000 tons and 80% of it is consumed in India.Recently, 220 tonnes of black pepper and betel nuts worth ₹12 crore were reportedly seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence at Nhava Sheva Port, Mundra Port and godowns in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
