Mangaluru,: The Mangaluru city’s Panambur Beach was crowded with thousands of people who gathered to see the numerous kites at the two-day international kite festival was held at on the sea shore of Panambur Beach in Mangaluru, which was inaugurated on Saturday January 16.
The kites ranging from the giant to the small dotted the sky at the beach and featured plenty of attractive designs. The theme of the event is ‘one sky, one earth, one family’.
For the first time, there were a special attraction of lighting a series of over 100 beach lanterns were add colour to the night flying of kites using high powered beams was held.
Foreign flyers from 12 countries namely France, Germany, Holland, Australia, U.K., Turkey, Kuwait, Italy, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Ukraine are taking part in this festival.
Team Mangalore are also flying their speciality kites like Kathakali, Yaksha, Bhoota Kola, Gajaraja, Garuda and Pushpaka Vimana, which have won them accolades at international kite festivals around the world, were the centre of attraction at Panambur too.
The new creation Vibheeshana also delighted the crowd. In all, three national teams from Dahanu, Mumbai and Hyderabad are participated.
With Yettinahole project a major issue for this coastal district, artist Dinesh Holla, part of Team Mangalore has designed Save Nethravathi kite to send message of opposition to this project with potential to cause ecological damage, sky high.
