Mangaluru, Jan 03.2016: M Chandra Sekhar took over as the Mangaluru Police Commissioner from Outgoing police commissioner S Murugan on Sunday January 03, 2016.
M Chandra Sekhar is a 1998-batch IPS officer hailing from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. He completed his engineering in aerospace from IIT, West Bengal. After working with Infosys for one-and-a-half-year, he joined the Police Department. He began his IPS career as ASP of Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, and later served as SP of Bilaspur and Mandi districts of the same states.
Chandra Sekhar came on deputation to Karnataka Police Department in 2009. For three months, he worked as SI, Internal Security Division. He then worked as Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Division, Bengaluru City till 2012. For the next two years, he served as the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Service. In 2014-15, he served as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City.
After taking charge, Sekhar told reporters that his priority was setting up a people-friendly police system and Maintaining law and order in the city.
To a question on the moral policing, he said, need some time to get to know the city better and the issues pertaining to local policing before formulating his strategies and go about implementing them. Sekhar later met the senior police officers of the unit.
