Moodbidri, Dec 24, 2015: The four-day annual national cultural extravaganza, ‘Alva’s Virasat-2015’- got off to a colorful start as the sun set and the dusk gained its entry in the soothing surrounding of Vivekananda Nagara at Puthige in Moodbidri on Thursday December 24.
Padmashree Padmabhushan S P Balasubrahmanyam, renowned eminent playback singer, was presented with the ‘Alva’s Virasat 2015 Award’ on the occasion.
Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dr D. Veerendra Heggde presented him a shawl, citation, Yakshagana headgear and fruits.
Balasubrahmanyam, who entered playback singing with ‘Shree Shree Maryadaaramanna’ Telugu film, has so far sung over 35,000 songs in 15 languages in the last 40 years.
Acknowledging the honour, SPB said that I am happy for the great Felicitation thanks to Mr Alva,I dint received such like a felicitation in before also and in future also I can not expect.If there is rebirth for me I want be born in Karnataka state only he said, further he said culture and education should be integrated and that Alva’s Virasat was a Best example wich was two coming together.
He dedicated the award to his mother and all the elders who have nurtured him.
Dr.Veerendra Hegde Said there is need for reserch on how to make student life more use full. further he said extra-curricular activities do not affect the academic progree of students.
R K Padmanabha presented a Carnatic classical recital on the occasion. Yaksha Sangeetha was performed by Sathyanarayana Puninchittaya and party, while Yaksha Namana by Alva’s College students, dance and music by Manipuri and Sri Lankan artistes.
As many as 30,000 audience witnessed the formal function and the cultural extravaganza. The entire venue was lit up with a special decoration of lights.

Prior to the stage function, the guests and dignitaries were welcomed with a cultural procession.
