Moodbidri: The four-day literary and cultural extravaganza ‘Alva’s Nudisiri -2015’ had a colourful start with a cultural procession in the town on Thursday. As many as 52 troupes from various regions took part in the procession.
The procession at the art festival, which started with the traditional firecracker ‘Garnal’, comprised Police Band, traditional troupes from Coastal Karnataka, such as ‘Pakki Nishane’, ‘Gumtam’, ‘Kangilu’, ‘Ati Kalenja’, ‘Kombu’, ‘Duf’, ‘Yakshagana,’ various art troupes from Northern and Southern Karnataka, such as ‘Nandidhwaja’, ‘Goravara Kunitha’, ‘Somana Kunitha’, ‘Pooja Kunitha’, ‘Veerabhadrana Kunitha’, ‘Dollu Kunitha’, ‘Jaggalike Mela’, ‘Kamsale’ and others.
Artistes and farmers
Theyyam art form of Kerala and Ummattat of Kodagu were also showcased. The ethnic wear of Vijayapura, Belagavi, Bagalkot, Mysuru and Sri Lanka were also displayed by artistes during the procession.
A troupe of farmers was also part of the procession. Bhajan troupe, ‘Nagari’, ‘Chende’ and street magicians were the other troupes which took part in the procession.
The chief guests for the inaugural programme were welcomed with Poorna Kumbha and traditional musical band.
