The city of Mangaluru celebrated Bakrid on September 24,2015 with religious fervor. The main congregation was at the Idgah mosque atop the Light-house Hill in Mangaluru,
where thousands of Muslim devotees gathered to offer prayers. The city’s Idgahs and masjids were full with devotees. Bakrid is a festival of sacrifice celebrated by Muslims to commemorate Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail for God, before God provided him a sheep to sacrifice instead.
